Objectifs :

The Commonwealth Foundation is an intergovernmental organisation, resourced by and reporting to Commonwealth governments, and guided by Commonwealth values and priorities.-Our mandate is to strengthen civil society in the achievement of Commonwealth priorities - democracy and good governance, respect for human rights and gender equality, poverty eradication and sustainable, people-centred development, and to promote arts and culture.

Actions financées :

"Within this broad framework, the functions of the Foundation will :- • To support attendance at conferences, seminars, symposia, workshops, short courses and other such activities- • To assist professional and other non-governmental bodies at the national, regional and Commonwealth level ;- • To facilitate advisory, exchange and study visits and training attachments ;- • To stimulate the flow of information between professional and other non-governmental bodies ;- • To stimulate and support any other activities which fall within the Foundation’s areas of interest by any other means that may be thought fit by the Board."—Activities for 2006-08 include :- • Supporting civil society organisations in designing and delivering training and developing their skills in policy advocacy, negotiation, and lobbying governments ;- • Organising five training of trainer workshops in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, and the Pacific on the Citizens’ Education Action Learning Guide, which develops skills for participation ;- • Developing new approaches to, and enhancing, the accountability and transparency of civil society organisations in the Commonwealth ;- • Building networks and partnerships to promote citizen participation in democratic processes ;- • Facilitating civil society participation in Commonwealth ministerial meetings, including the 2006 Finance Ministers Meeting in Sri Lanka and the 2007 Women’s Affairs Ministers’ Meeting in Uganda ;- • Organising the 2007 Commonwealth People’s Forum in Kampala, Uganda ;- • Encouraging greater participation of women and youth in local and national governance processes ;- • Strengthening the voice of civil society in national, regional and global governmental processes.—Antigua and Barbuda-Australia-The Bahamas -Bangladesh -Barbados -Belize -Botswana -Brunei Darussalam -Cameroon -Canada -Cyprus -Dominica -Fiji Islands -The Gambia -Ghana -Grenada -Guyana -India -Jamaica -Kenya -Kiribati -Lesotho -Malawi -Malaysia -Maldives -Malta -Mauritius-Mozambique -Namibia -Nauru -New Zealand -Nigeria -Pakistan -Papua New Guinea -St Kitts and Nevis -St Lucia -St Vincent and the Grenadines -Samoa -Seychelles -Sierra Leone -Singapore -Solomon Islands -South Africa -Sri Lanka -Swaziland -Tonga -Trinidad and Tobago -Tuvalu -Uganda -United Kingdom -United Republic of Tanzania -Vanuatu -Zambia
